Barça Vice President Explains Reason For Board Convincing Xavi To Stay On As Manager

Barcelona manager Xavi will stay on and continue his duties at the dugout of the Catalan side after he reversed his decision to resign on Wednesday.

Recall that the Spaniard announced months ago that he would be leaving his role as gaffer at the end of the ongoing 2023-24 campaign after the Blaugrana’s 3-5 loss to Villarreal.

However, Xavi has made a u-turn on his decision following a final meeting with the club’s board members as plans are already in place for next season.

Following an initial face-to-face meeting between Xavi and club director Deco prior to now, present in the Wednesday’s meeting was Barcelona president Joan Laporta, Deco, Echevveria, also inclusive was vice president Rafa Yuste.

All parties were also present at president Laporta’s house to celebrate the continuity.

Speaking after all the developments, Yuste said:

“Xavi trusts our project. We can do great things together”.

“We need to win titles, we all know that. We trust Xavi for that, he’s a proper Barça guy. He will be part of new Barcelona in the new Camp Nou”.

Barcelona will definitely now be working on new incomings with Xavi – as Bernardo Silva has been highly mooted to join the side.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed he would work hard to convince and would love to see Xavi Hernandez stay on as manager of the Catalan giants.

Recall that the former Barcelona captain announced his decision to step down as gaffer of the reigning Spanish champions at the end of the ongoing 2023-24 campaign.

However, Laporta is of the opinion and is willing to convince Xavi to remain at the club but understands the ultimate decision still stands with the manager.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta said: “I’d really, really, really like Xavi to change his mind and stay as Barça manager.

“I won’t put pressure on Xavi. It depends on him, he’s aware of my desire for him to stay here.

“We will see at the end of the season”.

Barcelona will face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League and are still favoured to finish in the top four in LaLiga after last weekend’s 3-0 win at Atletico Madrid.

Although, the odds to defend their crown seems a bit gloomy as they sit third and are still points adrift of runaway leaders, Real Madrid.
