Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted his delight with his contract which runs until 2026 instead of long-term commitments.

Speculation arose about the sacking of the Dutchman after the Red Devils finished eighth in the 2023-24 campaign, however, after stunning league champions Manchester City in the FA Cup final, Ten Hag remained as gaffer.

The 54-year-old had his contract set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, but it was extended by a year by United’s new hierarchy led by INEOS chairman and British billionaire, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Speaking to The Guardian, Ten Hag stated he did not look at the financial security of a long contract.

“No, I wanted this,” the former Ajax manager said in Los Angeles during United’s pre-season tour.

“So I think two years in football is already a long time and in two years we will see what we have built on top of what we have achieved now.

“I have enough security in my life and in my career and I have enough belief that I know when I have a team I will achieve success.”

United will face Manchester City in the Community Shield on the 10th of August before commencing their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford against Fulham on the 16th of August.
