Thomas Tuchel began his reign as England boss with a 2-0 win against Albania, however, he echoed is new side must “do better”.
Tuchel oversaw a good start to the Three Lions’ World Cup qualifying campaign with a triumph at Wembley, however, the German was keen on pointing out his wish for a better display.
Arsenal left back Myles Lewis-Skelly repaid Tuchel’s faith in him as he put the hosts ahead inside 20 minutes of his debut and captain Harry Kane wrapped up the contest with a strike in the 77th minute.
Despite the win, there were long moments of sideways passing from England as they toiled for long to dissect the Albania defence, which prompted Tuchel to express his dissatisfaction at what transpired on Friday night.
“We can do better, we have to do better,” Tuchel said.
“The opponent was hard to wear down as they defended in a deep block. But in the second half I felt we were too slow.
“In general we did not make enough runs off the ball to get behind them. We had some heavy legs. I felt we were a little bit tired.
“We will get better, we will get more rhythm. I will understand the players better, why do we struggle to get more runs in the final third.
“It is step by step. We will look at it. We will have video sessions and make sure we find solutions.”
