Chelsea attacker Mykhailo Mudryk faces up to a four-year suspension after been officially charged with doping by the Football Association [FA] after testing positive for the substance meldonium at the end of last year.
Per The Telegraph, the use of the named substance could lead to a suspension of up to four years; both Chelsea and the player are awaiting the results of the B test, on the other hand, the FA clarified the news to the media hub.
“We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations.
“As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time,” a spokesperson said to The Telegraph.
As recently as December last year, following the test results, Mudryk reacted via social media.
“I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to the FA contained a banned substance. This came as a complete shock, as I have never intentionally used any banned substance or broken any rules, and I am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.
“I know I’ve done nothing wrong, and I remain hopeful that I’ll be back on the pitch soon. I can’t say any more right now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can,” Mudryk penned on Instagram.
Mudryk hired Morgan Sports Law to resolve his case, with Chelsea providing legal support. This firm also represented former Juventus and Manchester United player Paul Pogba in his appeal against a four-year suspension for doping, which the Court of Arbitration for Sport later shortened to 18 months.
Pogba has terminated his contract with Juventus and is on the search for a new club, having been strongly linked with a move to Monaco during this summer’s transfer window.
