The quarter-final first leg stage of the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League brought drama, great goals and shocks.

Unarguably the most jaw-dropping tie of the round, Arsenal stunned defending champions and record-winners of the competition Real Madrid, following an emphatic first leg display.

The floodgates of goals were opened in the second half, as a pair of cracking free-kick goals from Declan Rice and a well-placed finish from Mikel Merino handed the North London side a 3-0 win at the Emirates on Tuesday.

Another surprising result was at the Allainz Arena as Inter Milan defeated hosts Bayern Munich 2-1 on Tuesday.

Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring on 38 minutes with an outstanding goal into the top corner of the net but Thomas Muller equalised in the 85th minute.

However, the Nerazzuri took the advantage in the end as Davide Frattesi netted the winner with two minutes of normal time left.

Wednesday’s games also brought goals as the ties in Catalonia and Paris recorded a cumulative total of eight goals.

Barcelona are in a confident position to reach the semi-final after defeating Borussia Dortmund 4-0.

Robert Lewandowski scored a brace and fellow front liners Raphinha and Lamine Yamal got on the scoresheet to ensure the Blaugrana sit in prime position for reach the last four.

Paris Saint-Germain came from a goal down to beat Aston Villa 3-1 at Parc des Princes.

Morgan Rogers put the English side ahead on 35 minutes but a stunning goal from Desire Doue levelled matters four minutes later.

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia put the French giants in front with a beautiful goal four minutes after halftime and Nuno Mendes wrapped up the win in the second minute of second half injury time.

The second leg ties are set to take place Tuesday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
