Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag provided an update on left-back Luke Shaw ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup clash with Barnsley, while stating Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui are all fit to play.
The Dutchman admitted Shaw – who sustained a calf injury in pre-season training – is still not ready to play.
“First, Luke Shaw, he’s progressing but not ready yet to be selected,” Ten Hag said to the media.
“Of course, we have a plan in our head when he can be ready but you are always dependent on how the progress will go.
“You can’t think, you can’t make a suggestion (of a return date) because there are so many factors why a plan can accelerate or slow down.”
Ten Hag also added that United’s full-back Mazraoui and centre-back duo Martinez and de Ligt and are fit for the League Cup after they were taken off in the second half of Saturday’s 3-0 win at Southampton.
However, Manuel Ugarte, who made his first appearance United as a substitute last week at St. Mary’s, is still under consideration by Ten Hag.
“They are all available (Mazraoui, De Ligt, and Martinez). They are good,” the 54-year-old added.
“Ugarte you will see tomorrow what the selection will be for this game.”
