Manchester City midfielder Rodri insisted the champions’ winning mentality fired them to a fourth straight Premier League title.
The 27-year-old was on the scoresheet in City’s 3-1 win against West Ham United at the Etihad on Sunday to confirm their status as the first and only team to win England’s biggest crown on a quadruple of consecutive occasions.
The Cityzens’ closest rivals were Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal who took them and the title race to the final day of the season.
The North London side finished on 89 points following their 2-1 win against Everton, however they had to settle for second place for yet another season as Pep Guardiola’s side finished with 91 points.
Quizzed by Optus Sport on the edge in the title race, the Spaniard boldy claimed:
“Arsenal also they deserve [praise], they had an unbelievable season, but I think the difference was in here,” the Spaniard stated pointing to his head.
Rodri made reference to Arsenal’s defensive display at the Etihad late in March which ended in a goalless draw as City failed to score despite having with 72% of the ball possession.
“When they faced us at the Etihad, I saw them and said ‘Ah, these guys, they don’t want to beat us, they just want a draw’ And that mentality, I don’t think we would do it the same way.
“And we caught them [in the title race]. At the end, if you give us one point, we will win the last seven, eight games even though it’s so tough. So I think that shows our mentality.”
City have an opportunity to win another trophy and end this campaign with the double. “It’s also so important for us to do the double,” Rodri added as they face neighbours Manchester United in the FA Cup final next weekend.
