Reigning African Player of the Year and Nigeria star, Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of the all-important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers coming up in June.
The 25-year-old will now miss the games against South Africa and Benin due to injury.
The Nigeria Football Federation [NFF] revealed that the Napoli striker sustained an injury which will sideline him for up to four weeks.
Osimhen — who is of keen interest in the upcoming summer transfer window and has a 120million Euros release clause — has now been replaced by Enugu Rangers defender Kenneth Igboke.
The Super Eagles are set to welcome South Africa – whom they defeated at the Africa Cup of Nations semi finals earlier this year – on June 7, before making the trip to Ivory Coast for a date with Benin three days later.
Finidi George’s charges have to win both games to stand a chance of qualifying for the showpiece as they sit third in Group C with two poins while South Africa are second with three points and Benin placed bottom with a point.
Rwanda lead the pack with four points. Lesotho and Zimbabwe also have two points each.
