SSC Napoli have been on a downward spiral since winning the Italian league and reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter final in 2022-23 under Luciano Spalletti.
The Parthenope have gone through though three coaches in this past 2023-24 campaign while also failing to qualify for Europe.
The Italian outfit are reportedly set to advance in talks with Antonio Conte to take over as the new coach of the side ahead of next season.
It had been initially reported that club president Aurelio De Laurentiis was highly interested in bringing Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League-winning coach, Gian Piero Gasperini to start a new era alongside new director of sport Giovanni Manna.
However, the 66-year-old – who was suggested to be interested at the opportunity of a new challenge – looks set to continue his eight-year stay with the Bergamo club after holding positive discussions with the club hierarchy.
Italian media outlets such as Sportitalia, Sky Sport Italia and Sport Mediaset are stating Napoli are aware of Gasperini’s preference to stay and are moving swiftly on Conte.
The former Italian national team gaffer, who won Scudetto with both Juventus and Inter Milan while also winning the Premier League with Chelsea – is now the favourite for the job ahead of Stefano Pioli and could also even accept a pay cut to complete the move.
