Real Madrid have announced the signing of France star Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer, bringing an end to the long transfer saga.
The 25-year-old joins the European champions on a five-year contract, achieving a life long dream as he will be strutting his stuff at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu from next season.
Following their 15th UEFA Champions League crown, Los Blancos revealed in a statement, saying:
“Real Madrid C.F. and Kylian Mbappe have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.”
Reacting to his new move, Mbappe shared pictures on his social media of his young self in a Real Madrid kit, as well as meeting Cristiano Ronaldo.
“A dream come true,” he said.
“So happy and proud to join the club of my dream @realmadrid.
“Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. Hala Madrid!”
The France captain had announced his exit from Paris Saint-Germain in a video posted on X on May 10.
The former Monaco man will move to Real Madrid in July when his PSG contract is up on June 30 but he will be unveiled before joining up with the France squad for the European Championship in Germany.
Mbappe joins an already loaded Madrid team, led by Italian Carlo Ancelotti – the most successful coach in Champions League history with five titles – with the likes of Ballon d’Or favourites Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham still within their ranks.
Despite winning several laurels at PSG, lifting the World Cup as a teeneager with France, Mbappe has never won the Champions League..
Mbappe exits PSG after seven years at the club where he won six Ligue 1 titles and four French Cups, finishing his career in the capital as the club’s all-time top scorer with 256 goals.
Real Madrid had courted Mbappe in the past but failed with attempts to land the player and after a bid was rejected, this led to a contract extension in May 2022.
