Coming off the back of history, Pep Guardiola has revealed his time as Manchester City manager could be coming to an end in the nearest future.
The 53-year-old’s City team became the first ever team to win the Premier League for four consecutive seasons following their 3-1 win against West Ham United on the final day of the 2023-24 campaign.
Although there will be no immediate exit, Guardioa admitted in a chat with Sky News; “The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying.
“We have talked with the club – my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But eight or nine years – we will see.”
The Spaniard also confessed to exhaustion after another draining title race which ensured City’s sixth crown in seven years, however, assuring that there will be another fight for the upcoming FA Cup final and to go again for the next Premier League campaign.
Guardiola also lauded his side for their historic achievement while also showering praise on the departing Jürgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
“We competed incredibly well again and at the end, for a little margin, we won it, we did it … We have done something incredible,” he stated.
“If I landed here tomorrow and they would say that in the next seven years, you will win six Premier Leagues, I would say ‘are you crazy?’
“It’s the Premier League, it’s the toughest one. This is the toughest for many reasons, the lack of recovery.”
Speaking about Klopp, Guardiola admitted: “I will miss him a lot. He has been very important in my life.
“I just want to say thank you so much for his work. He helped me with his team. He has been a huge competitor in my life. With him, it has been so difficult.”
Adding on his former assistant Arteta, whose Arsenal team finished second for a successive season, although with two points adrift, he continued: “We got the message from Mikel and his players, we got it.
“We know they will be there for many years. Young manager with big talent – they sent us a message that you have to be careful for the next few years.”
