Pep Guardiola admitted Manchester City’s late win at Wolverhampton Wanderers was a “good flavour”, while also adding the goal was correctly judged to stand.
Despite their dominance in possessions, the Premier League champions were seemingly setup to end the game with a 1-1 draw at Molineux, however, John Stones stepped up to head a 95th minute winning header.
Referee Chris Kavanagh initially disallowed the goal after City midfielder Bernardo Silva was in close proximity to Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa, but the Video Assistant Referee [VAR] judged he was not blocking the line of vision and Kavanagh changed his decision.
“We are not used to winning games at the end, like (former manager) Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool where it happened many times. It is a good flavour for us,” he said to the media.
Guardiola’s team had 78% possession against a Wolves side fighting at the bottom of the table and desperate to hang on after they had taken an early lead.
“With 11 players in the penalty spot, literally it is so difficult. But we were patient .. We are who we are and that is so nice.”
The Spaniard was, however, sympathetic to his opponents, after the result.
“We have been in that position, when you lose at the end. But this is the game.
“We played the way we want to play and it is a joy to be here, to score in the last 50 seconds and go top of the league.”
