Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick expressed his sentiments and admitted he was not happy with the club’s current situation and will battle until the end to win titles, as they look to avoid a third successive home loss in LaLiga when they face Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
After what was an incredible start to the campaign, winning 14 of their first 16 games in all competitions, the Catalan side’s domestic form has suffered a dip and after Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Leganes, they have now recorded just one win in their last six matches.
However, they still sit at the summit of the LaLiga table with 38 points, equal with second-placed Atletico and one point adrift of Real Madrid in third, with both their title rivals having a game in hand.
In what seems a harder task for the Blaugrana, Atleti have been in superb form ahead of the intriguing clash which awaits the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, as they have won 11 straight games in all competitions.
“What I can feel in the city and the supporters know what the team is like. We lost five important players. [Attacking midfielder] Dani Olmo and [forward] Pau Victor are the [new] signings. The team has improved and is focused,” Flick said, speaking to reporters on Friday.
“We are not happy with the situation, but we are going to fight until the end of the season.
“We want to win titles, but we know it won’t be easy. But we want to win, that’s what we want to do tomorrow.”
The German also said there will be little room for mistakes if they are to come out triumphant against Atletico, but was confident they are ready for the battle.
“It’s the end of the year. It’s a great game. It’s one of the best rivals. But today is Dec. 20 and we’re first in LaLiga and second in the Champions League. We are not bad. We lost some points against Las Palmas [2-1 loss] and Leganes, we have to recover them,” Flick continued.
“Tomorrow is another game. We have a young team and we have to fight and improve. We want to achieve great things. But we know it won’t be easy. We have to start fighting tomorrow. We are playing against great teams.”
