New Super Eagles of Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle was full of praise for his charges as they claimed a 2-0 triumph at Rwanda in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The three-time African champions dominated proceedings and came away with three points at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, thanks to a brace from Victor Osimhen.
The victory marked the first win for the Super Eagles in the qualifiers.
Facing the media after the match, Chelle beamed with pride following the performance of his players despite the short time frame.
“It was a difficult game, Rwanda has a great team. I am proud of my players performance. We work a lot within the few days,” he said after the game.
The 47-year-old gaffer also highlighted his side’s tactical approach, revealing they tried two different systems during the match.
“We had just two full training sessions. We keep the ball in the second half, good performance from my guys [players],” he added.
He also spoke highly on the importance of teamwork, emphasising that every player in the squad has a role to play in the journey to World Cup qualification.
Following this victory, the Super Eagles rose to fourth place in Group C, a point behind Rwanda, while South Africa still sit at the summit with 10 points.
Despite the positive start, Chelle also made known the need for further improvement, insisting that the team would work hard to fine tune their style before the next fixture – a clash against Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Tuesday.
