Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has been out since September due to an ankle injury and manager Mikel Arteta has revealed the Norwegian has been training on the grass for a few weeks and could return before the November international break.
The Gunners have seen their injury list expand recently, with defenders Riccardo Calafiori suffering a knee injury in the Champions League win against Shaktar Donetsk a week ago.
The Italian missed Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool — a game which saw Jurrien Timber and Gabriel Magalhaes also come off, both of whom could be doubts for Wednesday’s League Cup game at Preston North End.
“Odegaard has been on the grass for a few weeks and hopefully he’ll be back before the international break. Calafiori will be out for a few weeks I would say,” Arteta said to reporters.
During the international break, Norway are set to play Slovenia away on November 14 and host Kazakhstan on November 17 in the Nations League B Group 3.
“We’re still assessing Gabriel. It doesn’t look that bad. He was much better the next day. Too soon to say when he’ll be out.
“Jurrien (was) too tired to continue the game but there is no new injury there at all,” Arteta added.
After the League Cup match at Preston, Arsenal travel Newcastle United on Saturday in the Premier League.
