Manchester United’s poor form under manager Ruben Amorim continued following their 2-0 loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It was also the fourth consecutive game which Marcus Rashford was left out of the matchday squad by Amorim — who is not flinching nor going back on his decision to leave the striker out of his plans.
Rashford was initially left out of the squad weeks ago against rivals Manchester City, and then stated he wanted a new challenge — and the Portuguese gaffer’s comments after the loss to Wolves suggested there is still no change to the situation.
“It’s always the same reason it’s going to be.”We have to be the same professionals, the same guys, winning or losing. Losing, I have to be stronger. I will continue with my idea until the end,” Amorim said.
Questioned if Rashford had shown a reaction which prompts his return to his plans, Amorim added: “If he’s not here, you can make your mind up.”
The Red Devils have now lost four of their past five Premier League games and their task at Molineux was made the more difficult as captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off two minutes after halftime for a second bookable offence when the score was still goalless.
In stark reality, even with Fernandes on the pitch, United looked toothless and rarely caused problems for the Wolves defence.
The manner in which they went a goal down was comical to see as Matheus Cunha’s 58th-minute corner left United goalkeeper Andre Onana embarrassed as it went over his head and into the back of the net.
Amorim however was bit critical of Fernandes or Onana, saying his shotstopper had been impeded.
“I think [Onana] cannot go to the ball,” he said.
“He’s trying to reach the ball and some guys are not even looking at the ball but I don’t want to focus on that.
“I think the good thing is we were near the goal, even with 10 men. That is a good thing, but we lost.”
