Juventus have completed the £42.3 million signing of Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Brazilian agreed a five-year contract with the Italian giants, becoming the latest player to make his Villa Park exit due to the ongoing cost cuts because of Premier League’s financial fair play rules.
Luiz made his move to Villa from Manchester City in 2019 and was integral in their fourth-place finish in the Premier League’s previous campaign.
The 26-year-old, who netted 22 times in 204 appearances for Unai Emery’s team, completed his medical ahead of the move while with Brazil on international duty at the Copa America.
Luiz said in a video posted on social media: “I’m really happy to be a Bianconero. I can’t wait to play in the Allianz Stadium. See you soon and Forza Juve!”
Aston Villa also confirmed the departure on their website, saying: “Aston Villa can confirm that Douglas Luiz has joined Juventus.”
Luiz boasts a gold medal, helping Brazil at the Olympics and was voted Aston Villa’s player of the year in 2022-23.
However, the Premier League club need to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules [PSR] which forced boss Emery sanction the sales as PSR rules permit losses of up to £105 million over three years.
Villa – who have signed Ian Maatsen and Lewis Dobbin from Chelsea and Everton respectively – have already sold Omari Kellyman to Chelsea for £19 million, Tim Iroegbunam to Everton for £9 million and Jacob Ramsey is being linked to Tottenham Hotspur.
