Bayern Munich’s new head coach Vincent Kompany has made it clear what to expect from his side’s playing style as he so makes demands on the approach every player of the club must show.
The 38-year-old — who signed a contract until 2027 after leaving Burnley following their relegation from the Premier League — has stated he will demand absolute aggression and bravery from his charges.
The Bavarians who have won the league title in the last 11 campaigns finished third in the recently-concluded 2023-24 season, behind Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart.
The German giants also failed to win a single domestic or European trophy for the first time in over a decade which led to the exit of Thomas Tuchel.
“For my side it is simple. What you coach is who you are as a person,” Kompany said in a news conference.
“My personality is I grew I grew up on the streets of Brussels, I was in the academy of Anderlecht where from the age of six to 20 you have to win everything.“
Kompany, who arrives having Bundesliga experience playing for Hamburg SV and also speaks German, ended a months-long search for who takes over the dugout from Tuchel.
Targets such as, Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, former coach Julian Nagelsmann and Austrian Ralf Rangnick, all decided to remain in their current jobs.
“I want the players of Bayern to be really brave on the ball, to have personality. I want the team to be aggressive, to represent those two things,” Kompany continued.
“Absolutely brave when they have the ball and make a decision and absolutely aggressive, something they carry every minute of the game. Always.”
