Thomas Partey is reportedly set to leave Arsenal as a free agent once his contract expires on June 30, 2025.
Talks over a new contract between the club and the Ghanian international were reported to have hit a barrier days ago after the midfielder opted for higher wages than what was offered.
However, Arsenal were unwilling to compromise to increase their offer despite both parties wanting to reach an agreement.
According to reports, face-to-face talks ensued between Partey, his agent, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta and club director Andrea Berta – however, an agreement could not be reached for new terms as a respectful decision was reached not to extend his stay in North London.
The 32-year-old is reported to have clubs in England, Italy and Turkey now monitoring his situation.
With Partey’s exit in view, the Gunners have swiftly moved for a backup option as they continue their midfield revamp following the expected arrival of Spain’s Martin Zubimendi.
Zubimendi is expected to be the first-choice starting defensive midfielder at the club but with options now short, Arsenal have now made a move for Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard.
Despite an opening offer being rejected, it is reported that the Denmark international wants the move and has agreed personal terms with Arsenal.
Now, progress is being made from the initial offer of €11million with Brentford negotiating with Arsenal for Norgaard’s potential arrival to the Emirates.
With Zubimendi’s deal already signed and awaiting official confirmation, a £5million deal with Chelsea for Kepa Arrizabalaga as backup goalkeeper to David Raya also being finalized, Norgaard is on the line to become Arsenal’s third summer signing.
Arsenal are also looking at recruiting a striker, another defender and a winger – with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, Jorrel Hato, Anthony Gordon and Rodrygo all linked to the Emirates
