Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has rallied and called for yet another dent Manchester City’s fading title hopes by inflicting defeat when the top two clash on Sunday.
Salah netted twice in the second half as he inspired an action-packed 3-2 win at Southampton as Arne Slot’s side moved eight points clear off second placed City.
The Reds were stunned by goals from Adam Armstrong and Mateus Fernandes after Dominik Szoboszlai had put them in front.
The Egyptian then came to Liverpool’s rescue with a fine finish and a penalty in the late stages of the game.
The win was Liverpool’s 10th in 12 league games as they took advantage of Man City’s loss to Tottenham a day before.
On the hunt for a first league title since 2020, the Merseyside outfit could further boost their chances with their rivals visiting Anfield on December 1, already on a five-game losing streak in all competitions and three straight losses in the league.
“Hopefully, we keep going in that direction. We have a game against them so hopefully, we win it and go 11 points clear.
“Man City is Man City. They have a bad time now but they have great players.”
Salah who has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season, including six in his last five league games.
“They were very important, especially after being down 2-1. It’s the most important thing to have won the game.
“Each game is different. They had a game plan and played very well. We managed to come back and win the game,” he added.
