Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was over the moon for the performance of Kai Havertz in the Gunners’ 2-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
The German international who was brought in for £65 million last season, had a poor start to life at the Emirates, but he looks rejuvenated since the start of the year – with his latest input being netting one of the goals against the French champions in the 20th minute.
Havertz needed 10 games to finally get his first Arsenal goal last season, but now he has netted his fifth of the campaign while also claiming the man of the match award.
“He has been unbelievable. His football brain, the way he understands space, his timing, he brings people together,” said Arteta of Havertz.
“His work ethic is incredible and now he is a real threat around the box. He is one of our main players at the moment.”
It was a good night for Arteta whose charges dominated one of Europe’s heavyweights in the first half and then was able to curtail them after the interval.
“Really, really happy with the performance. We played an opponent that has a lot of personality, is really difficult to deal with when you don’t have the ball.
“The first half was very dominant and we created a lot of chances and then the second half was a different story. We suffered much more than we should have done.
“The Champions League brings different demands but I think we handled it really well,” he added.
